Capture

Capture explores the idea of an alien arriving on the streets of Toronto and how she'd be greeted. It attempts to give what might be her perspective as well.

An abstract, dance-based film in which an alien being is dropped into a big city and finds herself at once overcome with curiosity and overwhelmed by the bombardment of sensory impulses that surround her. She explores her new environment until being captured in a round, cement pen, where observers photograph her. The film explores the nature of curiosity and how it can lead to moments of wonder as well as resistance from others. Using a combination of rehearsed and improvised dance and stream-of-consciousness voice-over narration, the character was originally developed by dancer Meredith Wrede for a live outdoor show at the Toronto International Dance Festival.
